The stunning sight of newborn baby turtles
Colombia is famous for its incredible diversity and the fact it offers visitors the chance to see natural phenomena they have never seen before.
Few natural sights are as awe-inspiring as the birth of newborn baby turtles, who scurry down to the ocean and start swimming the moment they are hatched.
Majestic sea turtles climb onto the beaches of Colombia Pacific Coast and bury their eggs in the sand. Conservationists then gather and monitor the eggs, reburying them in protected areas of the beach.
Lucky visitors are often treated to the sight of these tiny creatures, no bigger than an adult human palm, hatching and following their natural instinct, which is to run straight down to the water.
Bahía Solano Colombia is one of the best places to see this happening, and there are plenty of other activities to do in this small coastal town.
El Valle is a peaceful village connected to Bahía Solano by an 18km road. Life there moves to the rhythms of the tide. When the tide comes in, it flows over a strip of sand close to the village’s hotels and down into the rivers descending from the Baudó coastal mountain range.

One of these rivers is the Valle River, which is bordered by four different species of mangrove. Visitors often choose to travel upstream on this river, by canoe and then by foot, first to the Cascadas River, which is a haven of crystal pools and waterfalls, and then to the Chadó River, to visit the huge pool it forms before it flows into the sea.
High tide is the best time for a nature walk in this area. Look out for the iraca palm tree, used to weave local hats; the famous borojó aphrodisiac fruit, used for preparing delicious drinks, and the rare labios de negra flower, which resembles a bright red mouth. One of the best ways to see these species is from the canopy itself.
Evening is the best time to visit Bahía Solano’s turtle sanctuary, where the work is undertaken to protect and preserve the species. Turtle egg-laying season lasts from September to December and turtles mostly lay their eggs at night.
Visitors also like to time their trips between August and October, when boat rides to see yubarta whales, sharks, and dolphins in their natural habitat are very popular.

Great spots for diving, fishing and snorkeling
A solo media hora en bote desde Bahía Solano a dos horas caminando por la playa se encuentra Punta Huina, una extensión de arena roja con aguas cristalinas, donde el mar es ideal para pescar y bucear.
Playa de los Deseos es otra de las playas más destacadas de Punta Huina, y es un excelente lugar para relajarse o caminar y explorar su arena oscura y sus majestuosos acantilados. Las playas de Cotudo y Becerro también merecen una visita, y son el lugar ideal para probar el buceo en apnea.
Las cercanas ruinas de ARC Sebastián de Belalcázar son bien conocidas y se han convertido en un lugar popular para el buceo. Este barco hundido sobrevivió a Pearl Harbor y luego se convirtió en un buque activo en la Armada de Colombia.
Más al sur, y bordeando el océano Pacífico, se encuentra caleta Utría, que alberga el Parque Nacional Natural Utría. Este parque refugio brinda más de 300 especies diferentes de aves tropicales y también la mayor variedad de especies de murciélagos en Colombia.
También es el hábitat de numerosas ranas raras y coloridas , incluyendo el abarco (Cariniana), el abrojo (Alternanthera), el caimito (Crysophyllum), el pojoró , la caoba (Swietenia) y la palmera milpesos (Attalea).
Este parque nacional, uno de los con mayor biodiversidad en Colombia, es un corredor migratorio para varias especies tropicales y está lleno de pasarelas de madera que los visitantes pueden explorar y observar la vida silvestre en tierra, agua y aire.
Está a solo 35 minutos de El Valle y también es uno de los mejores lugares de la zona para ver ballenas jorobadas que han viajado a sus cálidas aguas para aparecer y dar a luz a sus crías.

Cómo llegar a Bahía Solano
Una de las formas más fáciles de llegar a Bahía Solano , desde cualquier parte del país, es viajar vía Medellín, la segunda -ciudad más grande.
Medellín, en el corazón del distrito cafetero, es un centro popular con conexiones de viaje directo a la mayoría de las ciudades colombianas.
Suele haber un vuelo directo al día desde el Aeropuerto Enrique Olaya Herrera (EOH) de Medellín y el tiempo de vuelo hasta Bahía Solano es de alrededor de una hora.
Recomendaciones para turistas
Las aerolíneas más pequeñas de Colombia permiten un máximo de 10 kg de equipaje por persona. Te recomendamos tomar:
- ropa ligera y fresca
- Zapatos cómodos para caminar.
- Una mascara y snorkel
- Una linterna
- Un buen libro y juegos en familia.
Tenga en cuenta que no hay cajeros automáticos en Bahía Solano. Los visitantes deben llevar efectivo, preferiblemente en billetes de baja denominación.
