The Colombian Pacific prepares every year to receive around a thousand humpback whales, turning the warm waters of Bahía Málaga in Buenaventura, into the largest nursery in the world, where they come to give birth to their calves and to mate. A ritual that undoubtedly evokes admiration.
Every year they arrive from Antarctica and the Chilean Patagonia, traveling eight thousand kilometers for two months, to spend the summer in Colombian waters, which offer an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. From 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. tourists can embark on boats every day for whale watching.
It's 8,500 kilometers that humpback whales – also called yubarta – travel each year from Antarctica to arrive between July and November on the coast of the Colombian Pacific. There, in places like Juanchaco, Ladrilleros, Bahía Málaga, and Negritos, you can see their fins, their tails, and sometimes jumps that expose their bodies up to eighteen meters long.
Come and enjoy this natural spectacle that you must see at least once in your lifetime. With this immersive experience in one of the most tranquil places in Colombia, you will understand why it is the most welcoming country in the world. Immerse yourself in the warmth of the culture here!
