From Neiva, you can reach one of the 26 ecotourism-oriented reserves in Colombia: the Cueva de los Guácharos National Natural Park (PNN) -the first in Colombia, created in 1960- , which can be visited from the municipality of Pitalito, located 188 km south of Neiva. In this 9,000 ha PNN, the oilbird, a bird discovered in 1799 by the German traveler and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, lives.
This experience can be lived in the Cueva de los Guácharos PNN, which is reached from the municipality of Pitalito in a journey of between 5 and 6 hours. The park is shared by the municipalities of Acevedo (Huila) and San José del Fragua (Caquetá).
